Foldable iPhone Leak Reveals Apple’s Bold New Design

Apple is gearing up to make a dramatic entrance into the foldable phone market with its long-rumored iPhone Fold, expected to launch in September 2026. According to a leak from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this device won’t just follow the foldable trend—it’s set to redefine it.

A New Design Philosophy

Unlike earlier speculation suggesting a flip-phone style, Apple is reportedly opting for a horizontal, book-style fold, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. This design allows for a larger display and a more immersive experience when unfolded.

One of the most striking changes is the removal of Face ID. Apple is said to be replacing it with Touch ID, integrated into the screen. The reason? Face ID’s sensors are too bulky for the ultra-thin profile Apple is targeting. The foldable iPhone is expected to be just 4.8mm thick when unfolded, thinner than Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold and only slightly thicker than Samsung’s latest foldable.

Cutting-Edge Features

The iPhone Fold is rumoured to include:

• Four cameras: two on the back, one on the front, and one on the inner display.
• 48MP main sensors, matching the iPhone 16 Pro.
• A barely-visible crease, thanks to a switch from on-cell to in-cell touch screen technology, which improves both aesthetics and touch accuracy.
• eSIM-only connectivity, eliminating the physical SIM slot to maintain its sleek form.

A Strategic Shift

Apple’s delay in entering the foldable market appears to be intentional. The company has reportedly been focused on minimising the screen crease—a common issue in foldable devices. Gurman suggests that Apple’s new screen tech could finally solve this problem, offering a seamless display experience.
